Senior Web Developer


– Accepting applications

Eastern Standard is seeking an experienced web developer to work directly with our existing development team and to provide high-level guidance around workflow and best practices. The senior web developer is expected to work directly on deep/complicated technical issues, provide assistance to junior or mid-level developers, and generally help improve and inform development processes and workflows.

The Role:

• Write custom PHP, Javascript and HTML5/SCSS using Object-Oriented Programming practices, ES6 Javascript, and contemporary HTML and SCSS best practices

• Assist in (if not carry out independently) full website builds

• Work on building, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and refactoring of new and existing code, front- and back-end

• Troubleshoot issues related to front-end and back-end of CMS systems such as Drupal and WordPress

• Communicate with internal project teams and clients clearly and effectively regarding technical requirements, limitations, risks, and proposed solutions

• Provide assistance to other team members

• Practice and assist in encouragement of best practices with respect to code and workflow

• Ability to quickly ramp up on new or existing projects


Prerequisites (Must-Haves)

• 3+ years experience

• Demonstrate/depict in the form of a portfolio at least 2 case studies of work completed

• Experience writing custom PHP and Javascript using both Procedural Programming and Object-Oriented Programming practices

• Demonstrated ability to create scalable, well-architected, object-oriented code

• Familiarity with grunt, gulp, or similar task runners

• High degree of competency in SCSS

• High degree of competency with relational databases

• Experience building, testing, debugging, troubleshooting MySQL queries, RESTFUL API integrations, and general PHP and JavaScript libraries/modules/plugins

• Experience building and maintaining CMS-based websites in Drupal

• Demonstrates attention to detail, strong organizational skills

• Experience with Git workflows

• Experience working on a development team

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both the internal team and clients

• Demonstrated leadership qualities with respect to conflict resolution, constructive feedback, and consensus building

• Strong writing ability; ability to communicate clearly and concisely by email and other written communication


Preferred Requirements (Nice-to-Haves)

• Experience with the WordPress CMS • Experience with AngularJS and/or ReactJS

• Experience with noSQL databases • Experience in languages other than PHP (Ruby on Rails, Node.js, etc.)• Experience scoping out functionality and drafting/providing feedback to technical documentation
