Designer for Leading-Edge Travel Media Publisher

– Accepting applications — the web’s leading independent travel publisher — seeks a jack-of-all-trades designer in the Los Angeles area to join our industry-leading creative team.

We’re in need of a designer primarily to lead website and mobile-app design, but also someone who can pitch-in on video production (Adobe Premiere and After Effects) as well as tackle logo and branding projects and the odd print need like business cards.

We’re a small creative team of web designers and filmmakers, who develop and maintain Matador’s cutting-edge aesthetic. In short, we create stunningly beautiful web pages, mobile applications, videos, logo treatments and much more. Here at Matador, design is critical to our success and we take our visual composition very seriously. We believe strongly that design is what sets us apart from our many competitors — we expect you to understand that and bring that understanding to our first conversation.

Presently, this position is remote but we’re in the process of setting up an office space in West Los Angeles. Once we’re housed, we expect all team members to spend 2-3 days a week in the office when we’re not off gallivanting around the world. The designer reports to the Los Angeles-based Creative Director for all creative requirements and to the CTO (and his Vancouver-based development team) on the technical implementation side.

  • 1+ years of experience designing for websites and mobile applications. We will consider new grads who possess a strong student portfolio. We value skills over experience.
  • Instantly understand and interpret the Matador design aesthetic.
  • Crazy good communication skills and responsiveness: Successful Matadorians promptly respond to emails, attend all regular in-person and virtual meetings and can clearly convey their ideas, thoughts and beliefs through email and web conference.
  • Know and love the full product set in the Adobe Creative Cloud (formerly Creative Suite), including but not limited to PhotoShop, Lightbox, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere and Illustrator.
  • Reside in the Los Angeles area and be available to spend 2-3 days/week in a TBD West Los Angeles office space.
  • You don’t have to know the code behind web design, but you do have to ensure that the development team successfully implements your wireframes and executes your overall creative concept.

This is a full-time, independent contractor position with huge opportunity for skills and career growth. Hourly pay or monthly salary depends on experience. Will consider new college graduates.
