The Role:

As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will help support our data platform that includes web applications, platform API, web services, data processing pipelines, data security and data warehousing. You will work closely with software engineering and research teams to deploy their code, provide operational support for or new and existing applications and debugging production issues. You should be able to perform functions required to deploy, configure, support and troubleshoot issues with web application environments.


Our Ideal Candidate:

 

  • Has a BS in Computer Science, Engineering, another science or equivalent experience
  • Has 8+ years of professional experience in DevOps or related field
  • Has strong scripting or programming in Python or similar high level language
  • Has knowledge of Flask and other Python frameworks
  • Has knowledge of Node.js
  • Has strong experience with AWS services specifically in:
    • IAM, AWS data security offerings, RDS, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis and EFS
  • Has strong experience in web server software (e.g. Apache, Nginx, HAproxy)
  • Is an expert in configuration management tools (e.g. Puppet, Docker, Ansible)
  • Is an expert in Relational database/NoSql cluster administration
  • Is an expert in SSH, DNS, Server security including access control and logging
  • Has good experience in service provisioning and continuous integration and deployment pipelines
  • Has an affinity for open environments that encourage education, cooperation and
  • teamwork
  • Is capable of embracing guidance from team members
  • Is detail oriented with excellent written and verbal communication



You Will Own:

  • Up-time of our web applications and services
  • Deploying web applications to production environment
  • Monitoring system health, prevent and troubleshoot security related issues
  • Communicating with Dev teams in the event of an incident
  • Understanding website and application capacity planning requirements and ensure web applications are deployed in a scalable architecture
  • Managing system backups for our databases, applications and infrastructure
  • Ensuring proper monitoring is in place for all environments
  • Building and maintaining our CI/CD pipeline
  • Identifying automation opportunities, design and develop solutions to improve operations efficiency
  • Troubleshoot complex issues quickly and effectively
  • Make recommendations and drive the implementation of processes/practices to improve operational efficiency and reduce risk
