Director of Product

– Accepting applications is a rapidly growing ecommerce company based in Oceanside, CA. We’re making moving easier for everyone, and you might be able to help!

HireAHelper is looking for an innovative designer to take our office culture to a whole new level of hipster, and to lead our product design and development. HireAHelper is a nationwide marketplace for affordable movers who you hire to do just the hard part of your move: the packing, loading, and unloading. Turns out moving is the 3rd most stressful event in life, but at the same time, it’s also one of the most exciting events in life. It’ll be your privilege to design user-delighting products, present a fresh relevant brand, and create cat gifs that touch people’s lives during this time—-to make them laugh, to relieve their stress, and to encourage them through their moving adventure. So, if you can lead a team to create designs that get people to book life changing movers, that makes them say, “wow that usage of serif font was unexpected but great,” and that helps them out during their move, this position could be for you.

Ask yourself a few questions first before applying: Do you have a photo collection of Papyrus fonts in the wild? Do you have strong opinions on silly things like sliders and Point Break the musical? Is your personal whiskey list longer than your beard? If you answered yes to any of these, you might be lying to yourself, but if you’re not, then apply away.

  • Own the HireAHelper product suite and their development

  • Lead a team of product owners and designers

  • Balance stakeholder inputs, business priorities, and user expectations for product development

  • Design mobile-first UX/UI for consumer e-commerce funnel, movers’ business software/platform, and internal admin systems

  • Define and maintain all aspects of our visual brand (imagery, iconography, etc.) across all channels: web, print, skywriting, etc. Maintain style guides.

  • Manage the creation of original designs for marketing materials such as micro-sites, blog images, emails, ads, business cards, presentation decks, trade show materials, etc.

  • Train our coffee palates

  • Stay up to date on the latest design trends, tools, and user experience techniques

  • Web first, print second. You must be a designer of all things digital (responsive sites, emails, social integrations, etc.). Secondary to that is graphic design for print, apparel, office decor, etc.

  • Dedicated to coaching a young team of product owners and designers to success

  • Disciplined to work lean and iteratively (we’re big on MVPs)

  • Ability to work up conceptual designs from non-technical user stories

  • Passionate about your personal growth and learning—you’d rather be better than right

  • Exceptional attention to detail, but not at the sake of results when necessary

  • Highly organized with “push” project management tendencies

Education & Experience:

  • 3-5 years experience leading product teams comprised of user researchers, UX/UI designers, FEDs, and back-end developers for development of websites, software, or similar SaaS product (experience working with conversion funnels and e-commerce an extreme plus)

  • Well versed in translating user research into design requirements

  • Experience with designing brand identity from the ground up (original or re-brand)

  • Familiar translating designs to HTML & CSS

  • Experience with A/B & multi-variant testing and data driven design

  • Highly proficient with tools such as Sketch, XD, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and have a familiarity with prototyping tools like InVision, Marvel, Redpen, etc.

  • Single digit golf handicap, experienced sommelier, or former trivia champion is a plus
