Atomic is growing a diverse and inclusive team of curious, creative people who love making great software for our clients.
We’re looking for thoughtful problem solvers who are passionate about design that helps users get things done.
Atomic Object is a consultancy that creates custom software products. We work across web, mobile, desktop, and embedded product development—helping our clients innovate and grow by doing what they do better.
Atomic makers work on self-managed teams of 2-10 designers, developers, and testers—collaborating to create products for our clients, from the idea phase through launch and beyond.
Software designers at Atomic are generalists who engage in all aspects of the design process—user research, business strategy, information architecture, sketching, wireframing, visual design and interaction design. They work closely with developers, creating an effortless user experience and a rock-solid piece of software.
Atomic teams are project-based, so everyone gets to work with new people and tackle new challenges every 4-12 months.
Designers often serve as project leads, leading discovery workshops and defining projects along-side Atomic’s senior leadership. Atomic Designers must be able to sell their work and process to clients throughout a project lifecycle. At times, being a designer will also involve managing a budget, organizing an agile backlog and taking the lead in client communication.
Your portfolio is far more important than your background or degree. We’re looking for designers who can show us excellent application design work—demonstrated experience with human-centered design, information architecture, prototyping, and visual design. If you have experience with front end development, we’d love to see that too, but it’s not a must-have.
Atoms don’t all look alike or act alike, but we all share a culture that revolves around respect, collaboration, openness, continuous learning, and immense pride in doing good work.
Atomic’s designers also have six very important things in common:
High Level of Empathy – We use human-centered design principles to connect with our clients and their users, creating software that solves real problems and is a joy to use.
Self-Managing – Atomic’s designers are often the sole designer on their project team, and don’t report to a creative director. We must be focused, self-directed, and good at managing our time and work.
Strong Communicators – Clear, transparent communicators who understand our audience, give them the right level of detail, and help them make smart, informed decisions.
Passionate about Design – We’re intensely curious about many parts of design, excited about our work, inspired and inspiring. We have an unquenchable thirst to learn more.
Strategic Thinkers – Good software needs a lot more than good visual design. We solve complex UX problems on long-lasting projects.
Team-Oriented – We work side-by-side with developers, clients, and other designers, discussing our work and managing a constant flow of feedback. We fight for good design, putting the needs of the product over our egos.
