We are looking for an Operations Developer to help us build and deploy our websites and services. You will be working in operations; concerned with uptime, monitoring, performance, scalability, capacity and resilience.
You’ll also be doing a lot of development in support of that, using at least the following:
This isn’t an old-school sysadmin job where you spend all your time running backups, moving files around, and clearing out clogged disk drives. Instead, we’ll expect you to be a next-generation sysadmin, writing code to define and manage infrastructure, deploy cloud resources and monitor services. You’ll collaborate closely with developers and the rest of the business, delivering projects, solving problems, thinking creatively and designing the future of our infrastructure. If you find this idea both challenging and exciting, then we want to hear from you.
Your attitude and personality are more important to us than any specific skills or experience. We’re looking for a fast learner, fizzing with enthusiasm to develop new skills and try new things. Full disclosure: not all the work will be exciting, but if you’re the person we’re looking for, a lot of it will be.
You wont be on your own. You’ll get to regularly pair with our Puppet consultant, and the DevOps development team will also be on hand to show you around the estate.
We are a busy digital and creative agency running hundreds of sites. From day one you’ll be learning about security, programming, databases, networking, frameworks, cloud, Unix, configuration management, automation, monitoring, performance, containers and whatever else you need to know. We’ll be learning from you too.
Your working hours will be flexible, as sometimes maintenance needs to be done outside of office hours but you will get time off in lieu for this. We are also working towards setting up an on-call rota that you will naturally take part in along with other developers; again you will be compensated accordingly. We respect your time and the fact that you have a life outside work. So do we!
We’ll invite you to come and see us at the ThirtyThree office here in London for a chat about you, your past experience and also so you can find out if the job is really for you.
If that goes well, we’ll ask you to do a little bit of real work with us via a remote pairing session. We’ll be flexible to suit your schedule. This will be a great chance for you to find out what the job will actually be like, because you’ll be the one doing it.
Lastly, we’ll invite you to come and chat with the Head of Digital and the wider development team, so that you get a chance to meet us and see where you’ll be working. We’ll be spending plenty of time together here, so it’s just as well to get this part right.
It should go without saying, but we’ll say it anyway; we’re an inclusive and diverse team, we value diversity and we want more of it. We hope you’ll be a part of that.
To apply you must be resident in the UK.
